абе5900 continues its triumphant leadership, with е600ев going very closely behind, which we described in the previous review.
Here is the first failure. X600XT leaves the competitors behind, but абе5900 already has to struggle with X600 PRO which, as you remember, offers frequencies downstated relative to those in е600ев.
The advantages of абе5900 make themselves felt in UT either, but it would not be correct to claim a complete victory. е600ев practically does not lag behind and sometimes even surpasses PCX5900.
At HALO, PCX5900 is again a leader.
That is contrary to the Half Life2 demo. Anyway, its results should not be regarded as the ultimate truth.
But the failure at Tomb Rider is already a more serious blunder.
Here PCX5900 goes on par with X600XT, leaving е600 PRO and абе5750 well behind. In fact, the latter traditionally brings up the rear, so we could have ignored it at all.
At Far Cry, X600XT again surpasses абе5900, however at higher resolutions the gap shrinks a bit.
Final Words
Both NVIDIA and ATI offer really serious contenders for the name of the leader in the middle-end sector of PCI-Express solutions market. While in the previous testing session we saw a final and undisputable victory of X600 XT, now the situation is not that simple.
With practically the same price for both cards, we get practically the same performance, which adds more intrigue into the alignment of forces in the middle-end segment because no one has so far abolished the formula of the market favorite - "price+performance". While NVIDIA intends to lower the price bar for the produce made on PCX5900 chips, we can already ascertain a revolutionary turn.
Our discovery of FX5900 XT in today's review comes as a hot news item. Considering the outstanding potentials, of which not only overclockers have had the chance to know, we can safely regard it as just another "ace of trump in the sleeve of NVIDIA". Anyway, to perform an impartial comparison, we should examine the overclocking options of X600XT, which we are going to do in the nearest future.
In our further reviews, as we already stated, we'll be closely examining RX600 PRO which in some today's tests shows a really good standing among the a priori stronger rivals.
Summing it all up, we have to add that the new generation of cards on the PCI-Express bus bodes us many "wonderful discoveries" of which we will immediately tell you.
